Did you catch Christoph hosting SNL?  What did you think?  What were some of your favorite bits?  Game show host?  Papal Securities (Pope Retirement)?  Singing/Dancing Christoph?

Personal fav….DJESUS UNCROSSED!!! (Someone call Quentin).

And who wouldn’t have loved to have swapped places with Fred Armisen in the girlfriend, “Regine” sketch?

If you missed the episode, it’s available to watch on CWF: On Demand!

I swear, between ordering “The Art of Seduction” and the JaMarcus Brothers c.d. this week, I’ve already spent my entire paycheck ;-)

I can smell the pit sweat from here. I’m listening from your butt.

I can’t pick a favourite part, but it was either the JaMarcus brothers or Djesus Uncrossed. Also just him in general. Swooooon.

I’m italian and that’s the reason why i appreciated even more the sketch about the pope’s retirement. in this country it would be probably banned, here there’s plenty of hypocrisy about this subject, and even the government is submissive to the power of the corrupted church. the second before seeing christoph all dressed up as the pope i tought i couldn’t have loved him more, but i was wrong! :D
djesus uncrossed was funny too ;)

The retirement pope was the best, to me. I loved that bit so much. Also creepy Dimetri the security guard. Djesus Unchained is fantastic. I bet QT laaaaaaughed…

Definitely the BEST episode of SNL in years and years!! Laughed until there were tears.
Dancestoph and skit with Fred .. oh my gosh. oh my gosh.

Avatar of alizabeth Alizabeth February 17, 2013 at 8:27 am

And hoping it will be added to the On Demand!! :)

Getting it right now, it’ll be a few minutes

I thought a lot of the writing was uninspired – the game show, the girl who doesn’t follow jokes and the pope skit were meh. I thought seeing Christoph in different wigs was pretty amusing though, and the dancing at the end of the game show makes a nice gif. I happened to have tumblr up during one of the Alabama Shakes performances, and it synced up enough to look like he was dancing which I thought was pretty funny.

The girlfriend sketch succeeded because Armisten and Christoph totally committed. A+ to Armisten for facial contortion and zero modesty. A+ to Christoph for being such a tease.

DJesus was definitely the highlight in terms of all around quality. I also liked the stalker security guard one. The opening monologue with the Austrian who’s on first bit and causal Hitler had me laughing as well.

Alabama shakes were wonderful as always.

After reading accounts from people who were at the rehearsals, I wish we could have seen the cowboy sketch and the bumper where he’s holding his glasses. Obviously SNL rehearses and then makes the final cut at the last minute, but its sad there’s no “deleted scenes” that come out later like in a movie.

I agree with The Bean that a lot of the writing was uninspired; I expected this from SNL though. However, I thought Mr. Waltz’s performance was excellent! I especially loved Djesus Uncrossed (hilarious). I *did* like the Pope sketch (I always think SNL is at its best when it does commercial spoofs), and I giggled quite a bit at the Jamarcus Brothers sketch. Seeing him sing and *dance!* filled me with great joy…and I loved how cute he was as Fred’s adoring boyfriend.

Avatar of Kelly The Bean February 17, 2013 at 11:31 am

I forgot about the Jamarcus Brother’s sketch. That was well written AND well executed. The song titles teehee.

Some of Armisten’s lines in the girlfriend sketch were really funny. “An absinthe on the rock. That’s one ice.” and “They don’t have a choice, this is going to be a long night.” I wondered if the “on the rock” bit was a nod to “Alabama Shake” but that might be reading too much into it.

The Pope Retirement commercial was brilliant for so many reasons. Bravo.

LannaDash February 17, 2013 at 6:21 pm

The show was amazing! I loved his monologue cuz I’ve always wanted to hear his singing voice (apart from the singing he did as Roy Black). The game show skit started out kinda slow, but it was totally worth it to see Christoph tap dance (he’s got some serious moves!) “Djesus Uncrossed” literally had me laughing out loud, I hope Quentin was watching! Papal Security was great simply because Christoph looks BEAUTIFUL with white hair. The Regine skit was great as well, but is it bad that I was a little jealous of Fred?? And the Jamarcus brothers & creepy security guard skits made me feel sorry for him but still creeped me out at the same time. Like I said, the show was amazing, but does anyone know why they replaced Christoph with Fred during the “Fox and Friends” skit? I really wanted to hear Christoph speak with a British accent!

Louise February 17, 2013 at 11:07 pm

I loved it!!! The entire show!!! Djesus, Demetry, the tv host… and off-course Regine, I hated that bitter bitch. So much envy!!! Particularly the kiss on the neck, jajaja.
The way he sang and danced, the perfect timing on the sketches… omg!!! He should be so proud of his performance. He gave his best on the most important comedy show on earth right before one of the most importants weeks of his career and we all saw how he enjoyed it.
Gorgeous as always. Can’t wait to see him on stage again next sunday!!!!
I adored all the comments, girls.
Another fan, from latinamerica.

The beginning was brilliant but the second half of the show was unfortunately uninspired for the most part. Some of the jokes didn’t really get through to me.

I *loved* Pope sketch and Djesus Uncrossed though :D

Avatar of Aileen Aileeneurydice February 18, 2013 at 2:44 pm

I loved the Jamarcus and Dmitri sketches. The Fred and Regine sketch was great too, and is no surprise that tumblr is going nuts for it. He should be proud for what he did, as he can prove that he is funny. :D

Kerri February 18, 2013 at 8:09 pm

I was there! I did standby and I got into the live show! Anyway, “Djesus Uncrossed” and the Pope retirement videos were my favorites. I really enjoyed him during his monologue, in “What Have You Become?” (especially when he was dancing!), and I loved when he was creepy Demetri (sp?). I wish they would have had him play more of the funny characters (he was adorable in the Jamarcus Brothers sketch). I could have done without the “Tippy” & “Regine” sketches, mostly because he wasn’t the main focus… I’m like an attention-whore for him! AND I was so mad he wasn’t in the “Fox & Friends” sketch. Like, come on people, don’t tell me he can’t do a British accent! Anyway, I think he was great with what he was given & even though I didn’t think I could love him more than I already did, I definitely do. In other news, he walked backstage underneath where I was sitting and I almost died. He was SO close!!

CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING IN!!!

Avatar of jekkie34 jekkie34 February 18, 2013 at 8:14 pm

How long did you have to wait for standby?

Kerri February 18, 2013 at 9:27 pm

14 hours. I got there at 5pm Friday (which is later than I normally would’ve, but I had to go to work) and tickets are handed out at 7am Saturday.

Avatar of Christina Christina February 19, 2013 at 3:28 am

Ahhh! How cool is that! 14 hours too, wow. Dedication :)

Megan February 18, 2013 at 11:17 pm

I thought the first half was pretty awesome. I about died with that Papal Securities commercial, particularly when he was doing his testimonial as an enfeebled, elderly Pope….only to then rock out on a guitar. It was so serious in its execution that it was hysterical. Djesus Uncrossed was excellent, if only for the “D”! And Ingelbert J’Marcus, the adopted white virgin. Too great. After that, they didn’t really have much for him to do other than play the straight man. But the reason I adore Christoph so damn much is that he takes whatever he’s given and runs away with it 110 percent. I’m so happy he got to host.

Dana February 19, 2013 at 1:59 am

I had to think about it, but I really liked Engleberg Jamarcus…to me it was hilarious. I like the opening monolog (who’s on wurst?) but it was sooo short, didn’t like that. Regine was funny and over the top. I think Mr. Waltz should come back and host again, I think the writers can throw more hilarity at him, he can handle it.

Avatar of shomangaka shomangaka February 19, 2013 at 2:36 am

I think he did great!!! I am happy he got to sing on the show. I loved the sketch about the pope, I laughed the most when he dropped all the groceries on the sidewalk. The Jamarcus brothers and Dmitri sketches were also very funny, and i am glad i got to see him dance. Djesus Uncrossed was gold! There are no words that could describe how glad i am that Regine sketch actually happened.

Alicia February 19, 2013 at 11:24 am

I enjoyed almost all of it. The Djesus sketch was really elaborate and I wondered how they produced it in so short a time. I do wish Waltz was able to do more with Bill Hader on the show because they could be brilliant together, two masterful shape shifters, but Hader was barely utilized. On the Fox & News sketch I’m going to have to watch again and pause the screen to read the list of corrections that scrolled down the screen. It was really funny stuff….especially if you know the Fox channel’s aversion to fact checking.

Avatar of karen alwaysthesea Karen February 19, 2013 at 11:55 am

Oh, Alicia–I so agree on the Bill Hader! I was really hoping there would be more between these two. I think Hader is hilarious. I was bummed not to see the two of them interact much.

Someone on Tumblr posted the Fox and Friends corrections, and of course I couldn’t find it. But I did find this: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/backstage/fox-friends-corrections-4/

Alicia February 20, 2013 at 12:39 am

Thank you, Karen, for finding the link to the corrections. It was even funnier than I realized.
“The Vatican is not accessible through a wardrobe.” “The Constitution did not ‘write itself.’” Maybe
the writers spent too much time on the faux corrections and could have buffed some of the sketches
a bit more.

Papal Securities was my fave skit, I literally burst out laughing like an idiot when that came on. Also liked Dimetri creepy security guy, JaMarcus brothers and the Regine sketch – the kiss on the neck made me fall a little bit (more) in love *swoon*. Also the game show and Tippy were kinda funny a in weird way.(well, I find myself imitating Tippys voice and randomly asking ppl ‘what have you become?’ since watching it eeerrrmm…). Also that guys British accent was perfect (I’m from the uk and I’m sick of hearing about the horse meat thing over here, but that bit made me laugh!).
The Waltz was naturally awesome in it all, love that he throws himself into every role no matter how silly. Thanks so much for uploading, and for this site in general, I’m officially obsessed!!

DeborahKLA February 23, 2013 at 12:46 pm

I loved “Djesus Uncrossed”, the J’Marcus Brothers and the Papal Securities ad (especially when he was wearing the “bless this mess” apron!) But I have to say that my absolute favorite was Dmitri the Security Guard. I thought he was so sweet in that part (and was I the only one squinting to try to get a good look at that photo of him on the Lamborghini?) I also absolutely ADORED his dancing at the end of game show skit!! Please tell me there are GIFs of this bit somewhere!!!

Julia February 27, 2013 at 2:05 pm

I was laughing so hard I scared everyone in the pub during DJesus Uncrossed. Tears were coming out of my eyes during St.Peter’s part.
I think my favorite JaMarcus song would have to be “Let’s Shower Together, I’ll Go First Then You Can Go.”(or something along those lines)
And the pope insurance was hilarious.
If the pope has never ridden a tandem bike with his hat, then he’s living his life wrong.
Thank you sooooo much for putting this on demand! It ran great even on the terrible internet with limited data we get each week.

Rosenda February 27, 2013 at 5:11 pm

Djesus Uncrossed was so awesomeeeeeeee!! I loved it!!

Black m February 27, 2013 at 5:24 pm
